Daegu Health College (DHC / President Dr. Nam, Sung-hee) student volunteer’s corps consisting of members of physical therapy, clinical pathology, and public health & environment received high praises from local marathon participants for 3 years of devotion during the marathon since 2017.
The volunteer’s corps comprised of 10 professors (including department deans), 60 students, and 10 physical therapists donated their talents to 3,500 marathoners at ‘the 17th Buk-gu Love Marathon’ hosted on 27 October at the citizen’s stadium, Buk-gu, Daegu. The purpose of this outreach program is to raise sense of volunteerism and pride using their departmental knowledge.
Professors and students from the department of physical therapy taught the race participants how to apply tapings, and provided chiropractic therapy. Students served as ushers and record trackers throughout the event, and some also helped their professors and seniors providing physical therapy.
Professors and students from the department of clinical pathology opened a booth at the corner of the marathon site in order to run blood sugar and blood pressure tests. Members of public health & environment evaluated air and water contamination level throughout the stadium and informed the participants on how safe their current environment is. They also provided hand sanitizers to the participants and cleaned their surroundings.
Dean of physical therapy Dr. Lee, Jae-hong (48) said “It is worthwhile watching students volunteering for the community using their knowledge from their college. I will continue to actively partake in community outreach programs with my fellow professors and students.”
