Daegu Health College (DHC / President Dr. Nam, Sung-hee) department of nursing hosted ‘the 21st Nightingale Pledge Ceremony’ at Indang Art Hall in the morning of the 19th.
500 participants including President Nam, Professor Kim, Jo-ja (winner of Nightingale badge and honorary professor at Yonsei University), President Kang, Byeong-kyun (DHC Alumni Association President), Supervisor Kim, Bo-young (DHC Hospital Nursing Supervisor), distinguished visitors, parents, nurses, and students congratulated those who pledged at the ceremony.
DHC department of nursing has been hosting the Nightingale pledge ceremony annually for sophomore students who finished the basic theory and pending clinical practice. The purpose of this ceremony is to reiterate the noble sacrifice and volunteerism of Nightingale.
246 sophomores who relayed the candles during the ceremony solemnly pledged “May my life be devoted to service and to the high ideals of the nursing profession.”
Cho, Hee-jin (19·Female), a sophomore who pledged at the ceremony said “With my wishes lit in a candle to enlighten the darkness, this ceremony reminded me of my identity as a professional nurse with faithful devotion. I will try to be a caring and considerate nurse to the patients during my clinical practice.”
President Nam stated “today’s ceremony was such a precious and beautiful moment” and requested “being a nurse means having a dignifying profession dealing with human lives. As such, they should develop professional knowledge and leadership.”
